Mac shortcut: Unfortunately the 2016 version for Mac does not have the Alt key shortcut combinations. The Excel AutoFit feature is a real time saver when it comes to adjusting the size of your columns and rows to match the size of your content. Double-click any column separator to auto fit the column widths. Double-click any row separator to auto fit the row height. After placed cursor inside C6, I clicked on the AutoSum button 4. In the screen shot below, I’ve selected columns E and F, and will double-click on the right border of the column F heading. ![]() Problems With AutoFitting the Column A quick way to make things fit is to double-click on a border in the column headings. That gets a bit tiresome though, and it doesn’t help if you need to print the worksheet. You can point to a cell that’s filled with number signs, and the value will usually appear in a popup box. When numbers don’t fit in a cell, Excel shows number signs instead. We'll adjust column widths based on a specific cell. I have a quick tip for you today, that might make your worksheets look a little better.
